Excellent! Low power consumption and a lot of space...

I got one of these freezers in 2006 and I have used it almost continuously since then. I have not had any problems with mine. Because this unit opens on the top, you don't lose so much of the coldness when you open it. I selected this unit particularly because of its low overall power consumption which is important when my household is running from auxiliary power (off-grid).There are no coils on the inside of the freezer, where the food goes, so it's easier to keep clean and frost-free, as well as to remove things that may have been stored in there for awhile. * * * * * * * * * *Updated: SPRING of 2011.This Avanti freezer is still in service without issue, except the "pilot" light isn't lit anymore. Being way out of warranty, and being that the unit otherwise functions like new, I don't even consider this a negative experience. It's obvious when it's "on" and when it's not.Also, without measuring the temperature, I can see that the temperatures are good, with slower yet still freezing of bottled water when set at the "warmest" (least cold) settings, within a reasonable period of time, and quite excellent performance even at the middle settings.Once the unit is full and frozen, it's amazing how little power it uses to maintain the food that's in there.But I've had no problems. The lid still works perfectly, and holds itself open when you raise it high enough, just like it's supposed to do.As far as home maintenance, you do have to defrost this style of unit occasionally. Perhaps every 6 months for me. Your frequency will vary depending on humidity and how often you open it, as well as other factors. For me, this was the beauty of this unit, as it uses significantly less power than "cycle-defrost" models, and which was important to my application. I should note that when I do defrost this freezer, I just unplug it, take everything out of it, and let it melt by itself, leaving towels in the bottom. Wipe it dry and it's ready to go again. I live in a humid climate, and have had to use a bit of bleach cleaner on the soft weatherstrip looking stuff that seals the lid, in order to block that black stuff that grows in all refrigerators & freezers' seals.I have no regrets in buying this freezer. I'm still recommending this as an excellent value.

perfect for our needs

compact profile for easy placement in laundry room/ allows us to take advantage of frozen food and meat sales/ I'm 5'1" and can reach the bottom without having to put my whole body in it. Very happy with this purchase.

I do a LOT of crockpot cooking, sometimes three crockpots on Sunday and freeze many meals. We also live in a fairly small apartment. This puppy holds a LOT of stuff and works beautifully. Very happy with it, plus the delivery was much faster than I'd anticipated.
