We highly recommend purchasing the AquaPure In-Line Icemaker Ice and Water Filter (AP717) to increase the performance and overall longevity of this unit. Not only does it help the water pump work more efficiently, it also works to protect the ice maker from lime scale buildup that can severely affect the quality of the unit. Another added benefit is that it can reduce bad taste and odors from the original tap water, making it easier to drink; removing chlorine, dust, rust, and other particles also ensure that the water stays clean and keeps you healthy and safe.

a little disappointed
By lnelson
I had a kitchenaid 15" under the counter ice maker that looks a lot like the Koldfront for many years. I was please with the kitchenaid, but after many years of service the compressor failed. A new Kitchenaid costs $1700. The Koldfront is a lot cheaper at $660 so I bought the cheaper Koldfront. The Koldfront makes the ice differently, in the back of the icemaker, not the top. The ice it produces isn't smooth and tends to not break into individual pieces, so big chunks of ice have to be broken up. It makes more noise than the kitchenaid. I do miss the nice smooth ice the kitchenaid made, but am not sure it is worth $1000 difference.
