Broke in less than a month

The product worked well for a couple of weeks, producing very good low-carb ice cream for me for my low carb diet. The problem is that the timer function is NOT tied to any kind of safety protection feature. Ice cream mixtures vary greatly on how long they take to freeze. As the mixture freezes, the mixing paddle slows down. When it comes to a stop, it's a very good idea to shut the motor off so it doesn't overheat the motor coils in the mixing motor (that sits on top here). However, you can't expect someone to sit there and watch it the entire time. That's why it has a timer. It defaults to an hour. I set it for 50 minutes which was about how long it took for most of my batches (45-50 minutes, a few were over an hour). The only thing I had varied was using egg yolks instead of glycerin in a recipe I had been using repeatedly. Apparently, this was enough to greatly vary the freezing time on this batch as I came in to check on it at 48 minutes and the machine had already stopped moving the paddle and the ice cream was partly frozen (far more than I had ever seen in that amount of time thus far). I quickly shut the machine off and noted the motor was somewhat hot (but not burn your hand hot or anything, but warmer than it had ever gotten going 8 minutes past stopping before where it was usually only a little warm). I let the machine cool down and didn't try to run it until the next day. I made my batter and powered up, set my timer and hit START. The machine turned back off and won't come on now (probably blew the internal fuse). The manual doesn't warn about this sort of situation other than saying shutting it off will ensure long life, but their own timer DEFAULT is 60 minutes! The machine should not burn itself up making ice cream in less than 50 minutes regardless.Basically, if an ice cream maker is going to just sit there and burn itself up (a clutch release or even a thermal breaker would solve the problem, not to mention there is not button to stop mixing or to lower the countdown if you just want it to freeze the mixture and not keep burning the motor up), it's BAD NEWS because sooner or later, no matter how careful you are, you WILL get distracted and not check on it every 5 minutes and that day could be the one the timer guess is off too far like mine and your machine will be toast. I think Whynter brand is the only one I know of that has a protection feature to shut off the mixer motor, but the reviews I read for it showed some other issues. NewAir seemed to have all good reviews. Well, let me be the first to say BEWARE.On the plus side, I will say NewAir handled the return very well (sent me a replacement out the same day and a free shipping return for the old one that I can use the new box with), but that doesn't solve the innate problem that you MUST keep an eye on this machine or risk burning out the mixing motor (and that's the only part I would have needed if it hadn't then caused the internal fuse to blow on the whole thing). I've increased my rating to 2 stars as a result, but you still have to be careful. It DID work well until that point, but I would still be very concerned about longevity as a result.

Big disappointment!

I finally had to replace a much-loved, very old Krupps model ice cream maker and thought I'd "move up" to the NewAir commercial quality model with an internal compressor. What a disappointment. The paddles stopped moving before the end of the freezing process, leaving the ice cream frozen on the outside of the freezing bowl but unfrozen in the middle. The motor does not seem strong enough to keep the churning process going once the mixture begins to freeze. Operating instructions that come with the machine are minimal. Returned the ice cream maker after several unsuccessful tries at making an acceptable product.

Not good and definitely not commercial

NewAir AIC220 Commercial Quality 1.5 Quart Ice Cream MakerI got this hoping to have a great party with the kids and their friends. Turned out awful and slightly embarrassing.We tried 5 different ice cream recipes and they all fell flat. The mixture consistency was poor,slushy, and icy no matter what variation of cream or milk was used. So after 4 hours of repeated failure, we gave up and tried to make non cream based and that would not freeze even after 2 cycles. The party was a flop just like this so called ice cream maker. I tried it again the next day and after 3 cycles the paddle snapped. That really topped off this almost funny experience. I guess if you don't mind watery and icy ice cream this will do. I think we may have been better off just getting store brand ice cream.This cannot even make passable ice cream and is definitely NOT commercial quality despite the name's attempt to make you think so. Never heard of this Newair brand and it's obvious why. My 6 year old kid could have written a better user manual. It was no help at all. This is a real clunker and the first thing you notice is the loud grinding noise that's a migraine a minute.You'd be better off getting a brand name ice cream maker instead of risking $200+ on this iffy product.
